Dancehall Hot Again ♛ Caribbean Night on May 26, 2017

I was looking forward to this second "Caribbean Night" by Cranic Productions at Club Docks on the famous Reeperbahn in Hamburg this May and arrived at around 1 am on the night of 26th. So, I had time to chat with everyone before the party commenced fully to the sounds of the tried and tested Silly Walks Discotheque - a very nice selection of roots reggae - some of the tunes produced by the selector himself.

Oli of Silly Walks
Digitek IntlUK

Digitek Intl. UK took over from Olli and continued the flow of good music, the hits of today in reggae and dancehall kept the massive dancing und until the early hours when King Pin of King Addies arrived and started his set with some oldies but goodies and took us along on a ride through the times of reggae history to the modern day dancehall to soca selections setting quite a fast pace always sprinkling in some dubplates along the way.

The sounds on the main stage were King Addies Music (Brooklyn/New York)
Olli of Silly Walks (Hamburg)
Digitek Intluk (Grenada/New York)

Crucial B of Crucial Vibes

In the meantime, on the Reggae Floor Crucial B of Crucial Vibes Soundsystem (Hamburg) and DJ Ready Boxer (Barbados/Hamburg) were spinning the tunes and created some foundation vibes. At a later hour some soca tunes were heard there, something DJ Ready Boxer specialises in.

Sweet Vibes

Lion's Den

Digitek Intl UK took over the decks once again in the early morning and kept those dancing who never seem to tire. Even the host decided to shake a leg. The mood was great until the last minute of the dance.

Late Night Vibes

Once again a huge big up to the crew at Docks for being great hosts and particularly the lighting technician for the wonderful illumination which makes for great pictures - if I may say so myself! And last but not least, a huge "Thank You for an evening to remember" to the lovely hosts of Cranic Productions, Anna and Robbie!

Exco Levi in Bremen

Maybe you can imagine, I was quite happy when Irie EFX invited me to see and meet Exco Levi on May 2, 2014. Not only was I asked to shoot the show but also had the chance to meet the man briefly at the studio previously where Exco was kind enough to pose for Help Jamaica for me. The meeting went quietly and smoothly.

The show that evening was very lively and vibrant although the venue is not very large but at least it gave Exco the chance to be in close contact with the massive who knew the lyrics word for word and even took the chance to sing with Exco who seemed to be in the best of moods and really chilled out. It was lovely seeing this because Exco has been in the news for quite a while and just recently took home his 3rd JUNO award, this time for "Reggae Recording of the Year" with "Strive" which was produced by Silly Walks on their Honey Pot Riddim.

Silly Walks were also responsible for bringing Exco to Bremen and I'd like to thank them for that and particularly Josha who was here playing the backing tracks for Exco. Big up Silly Walks!

Busy Signal • Gentleman • Silly Walks

Busy in Hamburg on March 28, 2013! This was my hype from the beginning of the year and nobody I knew was actually sure he would really be able to come! This visit was long overdue after the last album “Reggae Music Again” he had put out in 2012 was a huge hit while he was being held and under examination in the US on charges from many years ago.

So when I saw photos of Busy traveling to Germany on the same plane as Raging Fyah at the beginning of that week I was happy and loaded my camera ready to shoot this event! Unfortunately, I didn’t remember they are very punctual at the venue Fabrik in Hamburg. So I was late for/missed House of Riddim Band backing Perfect Giddimani. I just managed to get one photo of Perfect chilling backstage before they headed off to their next stop.

The place was packed out! Everyone wanted to see Busy perform to the sounds of the High Voltage Band who are Lamont Savory on guitar, Kirk Bennett on drums, Aeion Hoilett on bass and Brenton Mesado on keys from Jamaica. Busy tweeted later: “Germany get flattened!! Hott Ed!!” and I must say, it’s true!

There was talk before of a surprise guest before the show and this guest was waiting in the wings watching Busy perform. It turned out to be the one and only true “Germaican”: Gentleman! But before he came on stage Silly Walks Discotheque played such a wicked set including tunes from their latest hit albums “Storms of Life” and the “Honey Pot Riddim” while Gentleman and Busy posed for photos and did some interviews backstage.

Then it was time for Gentleman! This man always brings the crowd to the boil simply by his presence. It was so nice to see him live and direct in a smaller venue. Everyone was enjoying the vibes to a maximum!

Since it was a little difficult to get around the place during the shows I didn’t get to take photos of anyone in the audience until the very end. I had seen so many people I know but I didn’t catch them all on camera. So I hope to see you all this week for the Raging Fyah show!
